I’m very pleased to announce that Screencine has been launched. I am the project lead for Screencine and I’m very proud of what we’ve
achieved for the launch.
Screencine is a screensaver application that allows you to display a video as your screensaver.
Screencine is build on the foundations of community, creative commons and open source. By this I mean that where possible all the code and creative is available for anyone to re-use or modify as they like.
My goal as project leader is to bring these contributions together to make the project stronger, the application better and increase the content available.
The project has two components, the application itself and the creative it displays. The application will be available for all platforms, Linux, Mac and Windows and will be able to play any video your computer can.
The application aims to leverage the existing technologies available. For example, it will use a native video player to display the videos rather than bundling it’s own.
Videos for use with Screencine are offered for download from the site. There are free and paid options. All videos are Creative Commons licensed which means folks are free to use, share and edit them as they see fit.
Looking ahead, the community is going to play a large part in the project and as the project lead I look forward to the journey together.
